Liwa: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has urged ministers to consolidate their programmes and plans by focusing on local human resources development. This is the cornerstone of building a knowledge-driven community — which is the core of the federal government strategy under the leadership of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

For the second day in a row, the Cabinet on Friday discussed at Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort the strategies of the ministries of Health and Social Affairs following briefings by Dr Hanif Hassan, Minister of Health, and Mariam Al Roumi, Minister of Social Affairs.

Achievements

Chaired by Shaikh Mohammad, the Council of Ministers discussed the achievements of the medical services and health care in the UAE. It also examined the developmental programmes of the social care system.

The strategic directions of the health sector include building self-sufficiency to step up the performance of those working in the sector, enhancing the Government's readiness in the area of health security to maintain the community's health and safety in Dubai, developing policies, legislation and governance to unite efforts and organise this vital sector which directly touches the lives of human beings.

The strategy also includes modernising and improving the sector's infrastructure, especially in building and renovating hospitals, and lastly enhancing the services and health care quality in a distinguished manner.

The cabinet also discussed the most important points of the Ministry of Social Affairs' strategy after the briefing presented by Mariam. The strategy in its future executive phase concentrates on the transformation from a social care system to a social development system.

The third round was an open meeting as requested by Shaikh Mohammad, in which he listened to the views and recommendations of the ministers on various issues which were discussed without any reservations about the performance in their respective ministries, in addition to the negative and positive aspects of the previous phase, including the application of the government's strategy 2008 and 2010.

They also discussed their aspirations towards the future, in line with the application of the directives of Shaikh Mohammad for the second phase of the government strategy.

Shaikh Mohammad also inspected the external transport vehicle of the information office of the Dubai Government. He was briefed by Ahmad Abdullah Al Shaikh, director-general, Dubai Media Office, about the technical devices in the car.

Shaikh Mohammad praised the fact that the car was assembled locally. He said the vehicle saved time and effort in covering events.
