Abu Dhabi: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, opened a crucial session of the Federal National Council (FNC) on Monday.

During the session, constitutional changes may be introduced to transform the FNC into a full fledged legislative house that will scrutinize the functioning of the government.

The UAE's unicameral parliament concluded the second session of its legislative term in July.

The current session of the parliament will last until the end of the two-year term, which ends in February 2009.
