Abu Dhabi: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has issued a decree regulating the usage of federal roads and facilities.
The decree is a part of the federal government's strategy aiming at providing a developed infrastructure, protecting federal roads and facilities and safeguarding their users.
The decision has authorised the ministry of Public Works in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice to appoint law enforcement officers to register violations in federal roads.
The decision also set a number of administrative fines to those causing violations and damage, between Dh1,000 – Dh300,000, according to the type of violation.
Besides, the decree gives exclusive use of roads and federal facilities to the Ministry of Public Works and not others, including the collection of fees for the use of roads and facilities in coordination with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Interior and signs contracts with specialized companies to grant them the right of using federal roads and facilities for the purpose of advertising.
The ministry has the right to determine speed limits on federal roads and places to install radars in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, though all revenues from installed radars should be handed to the public treasury of the state.
The decree also included that the Ministry of Public Works has to fulfill fees payable for services provided on Federal roads, assess the extent of damages and irregularities that resulted from traffic accidents taking into account the terms of reference prescribed by the law for any other party.
In addition to that, the decree included that the Ministry of Public Works has to monitor all infringements of Federal roads and determine the costs of repairing them and the costs of removing and processing irregularities to maintain their quality and provide protection for road users.
