Abu Dhabi: UAE and Turkmenistan have embarked on a new phase of bilateral ties with the visit of the central Asian nation's president to the country.

President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on Tuesday held talks with President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov of Turkmenistan on ways to enhance ties in different fields.

At the meeting that was also attended by General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Shaikh Khalifa and Berdymukhammedov exchanged talks about underlining the depth of bilateral bonds

The UAE President said these relations were making tangible progress in all domains as the UAE is striving to build and develop partnerships with Turkmenistan to take them to new heights for the best interest of the two friendly people.

Shaikh Khalifa called for tapping economic and investment opportunities the UAE and Turkmenistan offer, building true public-private sector partnership in both countries and bolstering joint cooperation in sectors of oil, gas, petrochemicals and extracting industries.

For his part, the Turkmen head of state expressed his country's sincere desire to strengthening its relations with the UAE given its balanced policy under the wise leadership of Shaikh Khalifa and its unprecedented comprehensive development and achievements.

He hoped his trip to the UAE would produce practical results that would further push economic cooperation and partnership forward based on mutual benefit. The UAE President hosted a lunch banquet in honour of the visiting president and his delegation.
