New York: The UAE has urged the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) to adopt the recommendations of the Goldstone report — that was approved by the Human Rights Council at its 12th special session — on the crimes committed by Israel during its war on Gaza Strip.
During a UN meeting on Wednesday, the UAE stressed on the need to refer the report to the Security Council to take appropriate action under the charter of the UN and international law, in addition to asking Israel to identify its officials directly responsible for committing war crimes on the Gaza Strip for the application of international justice.
Ahmad Abdul Rahman Al Jarman, UAE Permanent Representative to the UN, said before the meeting of the General Assembly of the UN on human rights that Goldstone's report reflected the gravity of the serious humanitarian violations committed by the Israeli army during its war on the Gaza Strip.
The report, Al Jarman said, included 36 incidents out of the hundreds of violations committed by Israel and revealed clearly the main patterns of violence against the unarmed civilian population in Gaza.
Al Jarman pointed out that this is enough to legally condemn Israel for committing punishable war crimes and crimes against humanity under international criminal law.
Excessive aggression
He also noted that the overall military operation launched by Israel on the Gaza Strip by land, air and sea, in the name of "Operation Cast Lead", resulted in excessive aggression that killed around 1,400 Palestinian civilians and caused serious injuries to thousands — mostly children, women and elderly people.
