UAE President receives Syrian parliament speaker

President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has received Mahmoud Al Abrash, Speaker of the Syrian Parliament.

Abu Dhabi: President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has received Mahmoud Al Abrash, Speaker of the Syrian Parliament.

Shaikh Khalifa welcomed the visiting official in the presence of General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

He highlighted the importance of communication between Arab parliaments to complement official and political communications, adding that they enhance Arab solidarity and bolster brotherly relations.

The President said communication between Arab parliaments is very important to coordinate stands at international circles. He pointed out that the UAE is keen to develop its parliamentary experience, which started since the establishment of the state.

Al Abrashi praised Shaikh Khalifa's stands and his role in bolstering solidarity between Arab countries, highlighting the President's visit to Syria in July 2007.

He also referred to the visit by Syrian President Bashar Al Asad to the UAE, which reflects the keenness of the Syrian leadership to maintain good relations with the UAE.

Al Abrashi said the Syrian leadership and people admire Shaikh Khalifa and appreciate his nationalist stands, and the help extended by the UAE to Syria within the framework of brotherhood and solidarity between the two countries.

The meeting was attended by Lieutenant Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Interior Minister, Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Presidential Affairs, Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, and other shaikhs and senior officials.
