Tripoli: Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister, on Wednesday confirmed the UAE's keenness to boost its relations with Libya for the benefit of two countries and their people.

Shaikh Abdullah said this during his meeting with Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. The minister is taking part in UAE-Libyan talks aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two countries.

Shaikh Abdullah conveyed the greetings of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to the Libyan leader.

He also conveyed the greetings of General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

For his part, Gaddafi sent his greetings to the UAE leaders, stressing his country's keenness to enhance these relations to serve the interests of both countries and people.

They also reviewed arrangements and preparations for next Arab summit at the end of March which is being hosted by Libya.

Earlier, Shaikh Abdullah called for formulating a permanent Emirati-Libyan committee at the foreign ministers' level to push bilateral cooperation forward.

"We hope that Libya would play an important role when it hosts and chairs the upcoming African Union summit. We are aware that Libya will play an active role in developing the joint Arab action to a better level than of today," Shaikh Abdullah said while co-chairing a session of talks between the UAE and Libya with Secretary of the General People's Congress for Foreign Liaison and International Cooperation Mousa Kusa.

Shaikh Abdullah affirmed the UAE's sincere determination to boost its relations with its Arab brethren, especially Libya, which he said has special bonds with the UAE since the establishment of the federation.

Pacts signed

United Arab Emirates and Libya signed two memoranda of understanding on the establishment of a joint committee and coordination of political consultations between the two countries.

The two MoUs were separately signed by UAE Foreign Minister Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Mousa Kusa, Secretary to Libya's People's Committee for Foreign Liaison and International Cooperation.

Shaikh Abdullah said that the UAE-Libyan talks had been successful as they met the desired objectives for serving the interests of both countries and strengthening areas of cooperation between them.
