Singapore: Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister, on Friday participated in the opening ceremony of the 12th Asia Security Summit (The Shangri La Dialogue). It continues until June 2.
The three-day event is attended by a number of Defence, Interior and Foreign Ministers, senior government officials, military analysts and decision makers in diplomatic and security circles from 27 countries.
John Chipman, Director-General and Chief Executive, International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), delivered a keynote speech, in which he affirmed the importance of Asian Security Summit as an inevitable event for the region’s security structure in Asia and the Pacific Ocean countries. He said the Summit would avail an opportunity for ministers and senior officials to discuss the current and future security, and political issues as well.
The Vietnamese Prime Minister, Nguyen Tan Dung, delivered the keyword address at the inaugural ceremony.
The summit, organised by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), will discuss a number of important issues, particularly the regional and security situation, cooperation and exchange in the field of defence, as well as strengthening security partnerships in the Asia-Pacific region, control of the spread of weapons of mass destruction and evaluation of the security challenges.
