Abu Dhabi: The Higher Committee for Combating of Drugs, chaired by Dr Amin Hussain Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary for Medical Practices and Licensing, has discussed the listing of newly detected types of drugs, alternatives for hashish and recently discovered drugs such as phenazepam.

The committee reviewed the technical and legislative aspects of listing the manufactured drugs.

The meeting was attended by members from the Dubai Courts, Dubai Public Prosecution, Criminal Evidence from Dubai Police and Sharjah, the Ministry of Interior, the Criminal Security, the Ministry of Justice and members from the Health Authority — Abu Dhabi, Dubai Health Authority and a representative from the Federal Customs Authority, and members from the Registration and Drugs Control at the MoH.

Earlier, the MoH received many comments from the Higher Administration for Drugs at the Ministry of Interior and the General Directorate of Dubai Police about the emergence of this modern narcotic, which is manufactured in the country. They agreed the phenomenon should be studied and quickly listed under various drugs laws.

It has been decided to list these new drugs after a technical panel completes a thorough study and submits the report to Ministry of Health. Subsequently, the report will be submitted to the Cabinet to study and endorse it so as to list the new drugs under the drugs law.
