UAE and Japan are set to finalise tax treaty
Japan and the UAE are close to concluding a tax treaty and it was a major topic of discussion in the meeting between foreign ministers of the two countries last on Saturday, said a senior Japanese official.
Abu Dhabi: Japan and the UAE are close to concluding a tax treaty and it was a major topic of discussion in the meeting between foreign ministers of the two countries last on Saturday, said a senior Japanese official.
Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister of the UAE, and Hirofumi Nakasone, Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs, met late on Saturday in Abu Dhabi on the sidelines of the Forum for Future ministerial meeting and decided to expedite the process to conclude the treaty to avoid double taxation on trade, said Kazuo Kodama, Press Secretary of Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at a press conference in the capital late on Saturday.
The Japanese minister appreciated the UAE's diplomatic initiatives in the trouble torn areas in the region. Nakasone pointed out the two visits made by Shaikh Abdullah to Iraq and his peace mission visits to Afghanistan and Pakistan, said Kodama. The Japanese minister said those efforts did contribute to the regional stability.
Shaikh Abdullah congratulated Japan for being elected as the non-permanent member of UN Security Council.
Negotiations for concluding a Free-Trade Agreement (FTA) between Japan and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) are also in progress, said the official.
"Japan–UAE Joint Economic Committee is also making its efforts to strengthen bilateral relations."
The Japanese nationals in the UAE, about 2,800, are the largest concentration in any Middle East or African country, said Kodama.
