Sharjah: The Sultan Al Qasimi Centre for Gulf Studies has started sourcing original books , manuscripts and maps to be sent to Egypt in accordance with the directives of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

These will serve as replacements for the collection of books and manuscripts partially destroyed by fire during the recent riots in Cairo, which include original ancient manuscripts and journals, as well as maps from the private collection of Prince Yousuf Kamal.

Shaikh Sultan expressed sorrow over the fire in the Scientific Complex in Cairo, which is one of the monuments that represent the cultural heritage of Egypt and the Arab world as a whole. He has pledged to restore the Scientific Complex as an acknowledgement of the enlightening role that Egypt played in the dissemination of knowledge across the Arab world.

Shaikh Sultan announced that he will provide his full support for the complete renovation of the Scientific Complex. He also promised to donate original manuscripts of rare documents to the Egyptian National Archives.

Shaikh Sultan said: "This and other buildings in Egypt stand as edifices of heritage and science that must be protected."

Egypt's Scientific Complex is an important cultural monument even on a global level, as it contains a number of rare manuscripts, maps and books, including Prince Yousuf Kamal's maps which are of great importance.

Shaikh Sultan also pledged to donate rare manuscripts, maps and a book titled Describing Egypt to the National Archives of Egypt that was burnt during the riots. The book was written by Napoleon's scientists, artists and historians.
