Abu Dhabi: Her Highness Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairperson of General Women's Union and Supreme Chairperson of Family Development Foundation, on Monday received Emine Erdogan, wife of Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan.

Shaikha Alyazia Bint Saif Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, wife of Foreign Minister Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan was present at the meeting at the Al Bahr Palace.

They discussed cooperation between women's organisations to promote the cause of women and support family stability.

Her Highness reviewed the vital role being played by women currently in the development process and the position they have achieved in light of the renaissance of women in the country.

Mrs Erdogan praised the efforts of Shaikha Fatima and her leading role in promoting the role of women in society and her humanitarian contributions on regional and international levels.

She also noted the pioneering role of Shaikha Fatima and in supporting women and the family, which has placed the Emirati women on an equal footing with their counterparts in various countries around the world.

Mrs Erdogan appreciated the efforts of Shaikha Fatima in promoting the role of family in society and the attention given by Her Highness to the issues of social development, environment and child care.

Earlier during a visit to the General Women's Union headquarters in Abu Dhabi, Mrs Erdogan praised the outstanding role played by the General Women's Union under the guidance of Shaikha Fatima, who also chairs the Supreme Council for Maternity and Childhood.

She also noted the high position the Emirati women have achieved on Arab and international levels with the support from Shaikha Fatima.

She held in high esteem the endeavour of Emirati women in keeping pace with the changing world and their ability to create a unique blend of tradition and modernity by safeguarding the heritage through their commitment to the Arab and Islamic identity at the same time remaining equipped with the science and knowledge, professionalism and openness to technical and technological developments.

The visiting dignitary toured various sections of the GWU headquarters and marvelled at the activities of the General Women's Union.
