Shaikh Khalifa holds talks with Syrian President Bashar Al Assad

President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Sunday held talks with Syrian President Bashar Al Assad on bilateral ties and ways to enhance Arab relations.

  • Bashar begins his tour in Abu Dhabi with talks with President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Abu Dhabi: President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Sunday held talks with Syrian President Bashar Al Assad on bilateral ties and ways to enhance Arab relations.

Shaikh Khalifa said the visit would enhance bilateral relations in the best interests of the two countries and people.

The two leaders stressed their keenness to activate bilateral cooperation, especially in economy and investment, and exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments.

They reiterated their support for efforts to achieve national reconciliation in Leb-anon and to step up efforts and coordination to restore Arab solidarity in the face of challenges. They also stressed the importance of joint Arab action and consultation on other Arab issues.

In a press statement following the meeting, the Syrian President described the talks as positive and constructive, towards cementing the relations. He expressed hope that the talks would reflect positively on inter-Arab relations.

Earlier, Bashar was welcomed at the airport by Shaikh Khalifa and General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
