Dubai: Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai has issued resolution number No 50 for 2014 regarding the Dubai Film and TV Commission (DFTC).

According to the resolution the commission will constitute representatives of a number of government institutions such as the Dubai Police Department, the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing and the Department of Economic Development, Dubai Municipality, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Government Media Office, Dubai Studio City, Dubai International Film Festival, the Emirates Group and the Jumeirah Group.

The resolution set out the objectives of the Commission and summed up the basic framework in which the general strategy of the emirate is described to increase domestic production and attract global production in the sectors of television and film development in line with the Dubai Strategic Plan.

The resolution also outlined the powers of the commission in developing and adopting a specific strategy to enhance the emirate’s location as a favourite site for filming and media production and to contribute to the gross domestic product of the emirate’s growth by attracting foreign and local television production establishments as well as a strategy to reduce media production costs in a manner that enhances the status of the emirate regionally and globally in this field.

The commission’s powers also include setting up the mechanism for the incentives system management, attracting foreign television programmes, movies, and encouraging local production, while developing and attracting the necessary human resources for the development of media production sector in various related fields.
