Abu Dhabi: Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Qutami, Minister of Education, on Tuesday issued a ministerial decision obliging all public schools to organise an open day for parents once every school semester.

Al Qutami highlighted the ministry's keenness to establish an active partnership between families and schools, which gives parents a chance to participate in developing the learning process and allows schools to fulfil their duties.

Al Qutami instructed schools to receive parents during the open day from part of the morning session until the evening session.

Bigger role

He said the targets of such meeting would be to inform parents of their children's education and levels of behaviour and work to develop them, as well as informing them about the ministry's efforts and development plans and giving them an opportunity to express their opinions about educational issues.

Al Qutami stressed that the right atmosphere must be provided for such meetings to enable proper social interaction between parents, pupils and teachers and to make school an attractive environment for parents.

He also underscored the importance of discussing all the means to cement relations between home and school and enhance cooperation to bring children up on the correct basis and for them to be aware of UAE values.

Al Qutami said the ministry trusts school administrations and their keenness to make the open day a success.

He advised principals to explore new frameworks by organising discussions between parents, teachers, students and administrators.

He also recommended organising cultural and social programmes in which everyone can take part and guidance sessions to raise the level of parental participation in the learning process. The minister stressed his ministry's keenness to implement the recommendations reached after the first meeting with parents, adding that the traditional form of schools does not have a place in the ministry's future agenda.
