Abu Dhabi: Achievements of Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE, will be the research subject of the second edition of the contest ‘Dorrat Watan’, which was launched in June, Dr Jamal Sanad Al Suwaidi, director general of the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR), said.
The contest was designed to encourage authentic studies pertinent to the UAE, particularly about its journey as a Federation and its process of development, as well as to draw visions for the future. This contest is part of the celebrations organised by the ECSSR on UAE’s 42nd National Day and to commemorate its 20th anniversary.
Dr Al Suwaidi said that organising this contest demonstrates the ECSSR’s efforts to support and promote scientific research. This has been encouraged by support and guidance from General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and president of the ECSSR.
“The research is expected to contribute to achieving the development goals set by our wise leadership. It may also contribute to building a knowledge-based competitive economy. Furthermore, it enriches Arab and international literature with genuine research and studies, which attempt to present the true image about developments and unprecedented achievements accomplished by the UAE in various areas,” Shaikh Mohammad said.
He added that all the winning research works will be published in a special volume by the ECSSR and distributed on UAE National Day. He added that researchers who win the contest will receive awards of excellence at an event organised by the Centre on National Day.
First edition winners
Winners of the contest’s first edition included Dr Allam Mohammad Mousa Hamdan, associate professor and head of economics and accounting department at Ahlia University, the Kingdom of Bahrain, for his research titled: ‘The Influence of Market Forces and Efficiency on the Performance of the UAE Banking Industry’.
The second position went to Dr A’akef Shawahneh, associate professor of psychology and mental health at Abu Dhabi University, for his paper titled: ‘Cultural Identity of a Sample of Students at UAE Universities’.
The third position went to Noura Nasir Al Karbi, a researcher at the department of research and studies for children centres at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs (UAE), for her research titled: ‘Status of the Emirati Retirees: A Survey’.
Dr Faysal Chiad, associate professor at the faculty of economics and commerce at the University of Setif, Algeria, won the fourth position for his research work titled: ‘UAE Transformation Process Towards Knowledge Economy: Achievements and Future Challenges’.
The fifth position went to Khaseibah Rashid Al Yammahi, researcher at General Secretariat of the UAE Federal National Council, for her research titled: ‘The Political Role of Emirati Women: Analysis and Assessment of the Performance of UAE FNC Female Members throughout the 14th Legislative Term 2007-2011’.
