Dubai: Queen Elizabeth II and The Duke of Edinburgh have accepted an invitation to visit the UAE in the autumn from President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

According to a press statement released by Buckingham Palace, the Queen of the United Kingdom and Prince Philip will also visit Oman, upon acceptance of an invitation by Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed. The visit to Oman will mark Sultan Qaboos' 40th year of reign.

The Queen last visited the UAE in February 1979, spending time in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi. She was greeted at the newly-opened Dubai International Airport, by then Ruler of Dubai Shaikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum.

During her time in Dubai, Queen Elizabeth inaugurated the new Dubai Municipality building, adjacent to the Creek, Jebel Ali Port and Dubai Dry Dock.

Queen Elizabeth was also escorted around Port Rashid by Shaikh Rashid to see the work in progress on the second phase of development.

Last year, the Queen's spring tour of the UAE unfortunately had to be cancelled, due to an "overburdened schedule" according to Buckingham Palace.
