President's Advisor on a humanitarian visit to Somalia

Mogadishu: The UAE, under the wise leadership of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, will spare no effort to help people affected by drought and food shortage in the Horn of Africa region.

The announcemnet was made by Shaikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, the President's Advisor, who has made a humanitarian visit to the Federal Republic of Somalia.

He was accompanied by his wife Shaikha Shaikha Bint Saif Bin Mohammad Al Nahyan, and daughter Shaikha Shaima Bint Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan and Hussain Mahmoud Mohammad, Somali Charge D'affaires.

Shaikh Sultan met with Somali President Sharif Shaikh Ahmad and Prime Minister Abdul Mawala Mohammad Ali. He conveyed to President Sharif greetings of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Shaikh Sultan later toured the refugee camps and handed to Somali Interior Minister Abdul Samad Mualim Mahmoud medical aid from the Sultan Bin Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation for Scientific and Humanitarian Research.

He said the UAE, under the wise leadership of Shaikh Khalifa, will spare no effort to help people affected by drought and food shortage in the Horn of Africa region.

Shaikh Sultan also met Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan who is also

visiting the famine-hit country. Erdogan arrived in Mogadishu on Friday to draw international attention to the crisis. Earlier last week, Turkey hosted a summit of Islamic countries to tackle the crisis and pledge aid.

The UN estimates that over 12 million people across the region are now facing starvation.
