Sharjah: Sharjah Municipality creates new special unit to monitor the cleanliness of the city as part of its campaign to intensify its inspections to preserve the beauty and cleanliness of the city as well as keeping it pollution free and attractive for tourists, investors and the perfect place to spend time.
Sultan Abdullah Al Mualla, Director General of Sharjah Municipality, said the new unit will have inspection teams round the clock to monitor any form of vandalism or any act that would distort the image of Sharjah.
This includes littering, throwing cigarette butts on the streets and not clearing leftover building materials — whether in the construction area or in empty sandlots.
He stressed that the great development that Sharjah underwent and the increase in its population, prompted the ministry to create the special unit to monitor the cleanliness of the city, pointing out that the municipality has organised several training courses for the inspectors.
Al Mulla also stressed the role of the citizens themselves in preserving the city’s beauty. A number of awareness campaigns targeting the citizens to familiarise them with the functions of this new unit were organised by the municipality. The campaigns included school students too.
Faisal Al Mulla, Director of the new unit, said the unit will not only monitor the cleanliness of the city, but also monitor all facilities that could be damaged as a result of some citizen’s wrong practices.
