Abu Dhabi: Construction of more dams and building the Fujairah Airport-Kalba Road were discussed on Saturday by the committee entrusted with the responsibility of implementing the orders of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The committee also approved measures for the completion of Shaikh Zayed Mosque in Fujairah at a cost of Dh16 million.

The meeting of the committee, chaired by Ahmad Juma Al Za'abi, Deputy Minister of Presidential Affairs, reviewed a preliminary study on the development and maintenance of dams in the country.

The committee approved the implementation of the final phase of the project and studied possibilities of utilising rainwater for agricultural and other consumption purposes. Work on the project is expected to begin in early 2012 and will be completed in 2014.

The committee tendered the contract for the Fujairah Airport-Kalba Road at a cost of Dh68 million.

This road will help ease traffic at Fujairah's city centre and bar the entry of trucks into city roads, thereby ensuring greater safety for motorists.

The new route will be a branch of the recently-opened Dubai-Fujairah highway. A new roundabout will also be constructed on the Kalba-Fujairah Road.

The road project involves completion of work for the Al Hayl Road from Fujairah right up to the east of the Sharjah-Kalba Road, connecting the Al Hayl Industrial Area.

This will lead to linking of Al Hayl Road with Sharjah-Kalba Road. It will offer an alternative route for motorists commuting from Fujairah to Oman or to the south of Kalba.

Apart from these development projects, the committee also decided to tender contracts for setting up an ambulance and emergency centre at Asfani Valley, Ras Al Khaimah.
