Major General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s appointment as Minister of Interior shows the trust and confidence placed in him by President His Highness Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, His Highness Shaikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Their Highnesses, Members of the Supreme Council and Rulers of the emirates, and Lt Gen Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Deputy Crown Prince and Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces.

In a statement to the press, Major General Shaikh Saif affirmed that his ministry will achieve still greater success in the arena of security and services.

He lauded the efforts of the former ministers, who built up a formidable security and service apparatus. He also appreciated the efforts and cooperation from the UAE nationals.

Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Education, said that he was proud of the high confidence conferred upon him by Shaikh Zayed, Shaikh Khalifa and Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed.

Shaikh Nahyan said, “We will bear responsibility of the coming generations, and will follow in the footsteps of Shaikh Zayed”.

He said the educational sector was the most important investment of a nation and that was why it received special attention from Shaikh Zayed.

He said his priorities will be to further develop the curriculum and carry out a total revision of education input.

Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of Economy and Planning, said the minister’s position is a source of great pride for her.

Her attention will be focused on keeping the same thrust in economic development, to be flexible and compete with international economies under the policy of the open market. She stressed the importance of team spirit and promised to inject a new enthusiasm into the ministry.

Mohammad Bin Dha’en Al Hamili, Minister of Energy, said it was a great pleasure to have such trust placed on his shoulders.

He said people of the ministry would work together as a team in the service of the country.

Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Communications, said he is keen to continue the pace of progress that has been achieved.

He said the excellent economic situation of the country was due to the efforts made by the Rulers who have established a robust infrastructure.

He said the priority of his ministry was to establish a database to determine the needs of the coming period.

Dr Ali Abdullah Al Ka’abi, Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, said the ministry will focus on modernisation and development of infrastructure to serve the interests of the people of the UAE.

He said Shaikh Zayed had laid a strong base for the country for the benefit of future generations.

He said the ministry will try to improve the demographic balance of the country and organise the labour force so that current nagging problems are resolved.

He said his ministry would seek to implement all international labour resolutions, and grant all rights to which employees are entitled.

The ministry, he said, would operate as a team regardless of the positions that officials occupy.

This means that the minister himself will be one of the team, he said.

He said the ministry will also adopt a policy of transparency with the media, who will be able to gain access to all relevant information.

Various labour issues will be handled objectively, he said.

The ministry will also strive to provide excellent service to all of its clients.
