Abu Dhabi: The new Indian Ambassador to the UAE will take charge next month, according to Indian Embassy officials in Abu Dhabi.

"M.K. Lokesh, currently the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy in Brussels is expected to arrive in Abu Dhabi by mid April," officials said.

A recent press release issued by Indian Ministry of External Affairs had said Lokesh, who will succeed Talmiz Ahmad, was expected to take up his assignment shortly.

According to an Indian media report, he is a "quiet performer" and has been rewarded for his hard work in other postings by being appointed as the envoy to the strategically important UAE. The 1977 batch Indian Foreign Service officer has also served in Washington, Sri Lanka and in the Department of Atomic energy in New Delhi, said the report. Lokesh's wife, Radhika, is also a foreign service officer currently posted as India's Consul General in St Petersburg.
