Dubai: Dubai Municipality will begin work on the new park in Al Ghusais 3 this month. The new generation park dubbed 'Pond Park' is expected to be ready by end of February 2008.
Engineer Hussain Nasser Lootah, Acting Director General of the Dubai Municipality, said that tenders for construction of the park, to be built with a cost of Dh27 million, have been accepted and the work will be completed in 270 days time.
He said the park comes as part of Dubai Municipality's plans to increase green areas and provide more recreational facilities to residents.
Lootah said at least three more such parks are planned in various parts of the emirate including Al Barsha, Al Nahda and Al Quoz. The 'Pond Parks' are being designed to turn vast areas around storm-water collection ponds into recreational areas where residents can relax," he said.
Lootah said private investors will be invited to operate facilities in the 'Pond Park' including internet cafes, restaurants, games and other entertainment facilities.
Facilities
He said the Municipality will maintain the park but their facilities will be outsourced. The Al Ghusais Pond Park, with a total area of 17 hectares, will have three segments with the first one called 'Pond Area' which will consist of a two kilometre long and three metre wide jogging track around the pond, a ticket-counter to enter games and shaded sitting areas.
The park will be fenced so as to ensure the safety of visitors, especially children. Colourful water fountains will be set up inside the pond, and there will be colourful lighting in and around the park area to give an aesthetic ambience.
The second segment will be the main park area that will consist of separate play areas for children in the age groups of 2 to 5 years and 6 to 12 years.
Another important feature in this area will be a three metre high slope area which offers a view of the pond that can be used to special ceremonies including student picnics.
There will be a 1.4km long jogging track in this section that can be used by students and others to organise race contests. Various types of trees, plants, seasonal flowers and grass will be used.
The third segment is a fenced playground for adults, which consists of a grass playground and a sandy playground for football, two tennis courts, a basketball ground and a beach volleyball ground.
