Dubai: The UAE is striving towards establishing a strong and diverse academic environment in order to bolster its regional role in attracting talented students and capable teaching staff, said His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Shaikh Mohammad said that such efforts are in line with the UAE’s goals to build a national knowledge-based economy.

Shaikh Mohammad made the statement on Tuesday when he received the Chief Executive of QS, one of the most prominent university ranking institutions.

Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince, and Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, were present at the meeting.

QS chose the UAE as the country from which it will launch its 2014 report, ranking universities from across the world. The launch of the report is sponsored by Shaikh Mohammad.

“QS choosing the UAE for issuing one of the most important university classification reports reflects the keenness of the UAE in boosting its educational competitiveness, as well as the competitiveness of Arab universities in general,” said Shaikh Mohammad.

Shaikh Mohammad added that enhancing the classification of universities, developing research centres and capabilities of educational bodies is the foundation for strengthening the UAE’s economic capabilities and benefiting from our human resources.

Shaikh Mohammad reviewed the results of the 2014 report along with the chief executive of QS.

Also present at the meeting were Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs.
