Dubai: The Arabic language is a key component for national identity, Islam, and Arabs, said His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Shaikh Mohammad made the statement when he received at the Dubai Executive Office the board of trustees of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Arabic Language Award, which was headed by Farooq Shosha, Secretary-General of the Award and the Arabic Language Academy in Cairo.

Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince, and Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, were present.

“The Arabic language is a key element of the Arab nation and its history, a symbol of its pride, civilisation and culture, as well as the foundation for our progress,” said Shaikh Mohammad.

“The Arab language award is a part of a series of effective initiatives and programmes, which we are developing in order to promote the language that means a lot to the history and identity of the Arab nation,” added Shaikh Mohammad.

Shaikh Mohammad was briefed by the board members on the award’s recent developments and future plans. He discussed with the board ways to enhance the award and develop its objectives to promote the Arabic language, develop teaching methodologies and boost its use in daily life. They also spoke about ways to encourage youth to innovate and develop ways for using the Arabic language in their daily communication.

Also present at the meeting were Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, and other officials.
