"Government excellence is a major foundation in the school of President His Highness Shaikh Khaifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan,"

Shaikh Mohammad said after he honoured top achievers in the Federal Government through the Emirates Government Excellence Award, a part of the Shaikh Khalifa Government Excellence Award.

The award, the highest for the institutional excellence at the federal level, is presented to distinguished departments, teams and officials who have demonstrated a commitment to best practices in their fields.

Shaikh Mohammad said the country is the winner because everyone is distinguished in serving it and catapulting it into top ranks in the world.

In a drive to make the UAE Government one of the best governments in the world, Shaikh Mohammad last year launched the Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Government Excellence Programme, which comes in line with the policies of the UAE Vice-President to identify talented and local cadres to further train them to incur responsibilities efficiently.

He said the excellence would be achieved through creative initiatives based on scientific methodology and adoption of the world-class best practices.

Shaikh Mohammad congratulated the winners, saying "what they have attained is an accomplishment not only to themselves but also to their institutions and community", adding that the UAE has resolved to build cultured creative personalities capable of bringing change and contributing to nation building.

He emphasised the need for empowerment in the federal government to be capable of holding responsibilities of public work at different public institutions.

The Ministry of Interior bagged the award in 13 categories including the Distinguished Ministry with a workforce or more than 900 officials, the Distinguished Federal Institution in leadership, strategy and operations.

Shaikh Mohammad also bestowed the sash of the Prime Minister on late Shaikh Mubarak Bin Mohammad Al Nahyan, the first interior minister in the UAE's history and Ahmad Khalifa Al Suwaidi, the founder of the UAE's Foreign Ministry and special advisor to Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
