Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Tuesday reviewed and approved the construction of new service projects including a Maritime Museum, a Mini World Park, to name a few, to be carried out by the Dubai Municipality.
Shaikh Mohammad was briefed on the projects during his visit to the municipality with Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai. His visit was part of his keen follow-up on the performance of local and federal government institutions and bodies.
Shaikh Mohammad emphasised the importance of teamwork and coordination between all departments and entities, saying, “We are all walking in one direction and we have to walk a straight path to get to the end of the road, and beyond, successfully.”
Engineer Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality, and his assistants, presented several key projects including the Hatta Housing Project for citizens. The 375,000-square-metre project will have 302 housing plots.
Projects that will enhance community life in the emirate include the Al Mamzar Corniche Beach located in Mamzar area opposite the Palm Deira. The 1,000-metre long project will have all the basic and advanced facilities for public and will be completed by the first quarter of 2014.
Still connected to the sea, the municipality has received the go-ahead to construct the snail-shaped Maritime Museum. The Dh35-million project will serve as a haven of aquatic species with a view overlooking the Ras Al Khor Sanctuary.
Another unique landmark will be added to the landscape of Dubai with the construction of the Mini World Park which will house replicas of famous monuments all over the world. From the Empire Building in America to the Petronas Tower of Malaysia to the Abu Simbel temple and pyramids of Egypt, and more, the one-of-a-kind park will give visitors a chance to take snapshots of major landmarks around the world all in one place.
Lootah also presented the Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Library project, which was designed in the form of an open book. The 50,000-square-metre library will have millions of books on display in addition to 1.2 million books in storage.
Green initiatives
To further promote Dubai as a leading city in the field of green initiatives, the Methane Gas Extraction Project will be constructed at the land fill area in Al Qusais to mitigate 250,000 tonnes of methane gas per year.
Construction work for the second stage of the Sewage Water Treatment Plant in Jebel Ali is expected to begin in July next year. The plant, which is scheduled to be finished in December 2016, has the capacity to serve 2.25 million people.
