Dubai: Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, yesterday held a meeting with a number of directors of departments and local institutions at his Majlis at Nad Al Sheba in Dubai.

Present were Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister for Cabinet Affairs; Mohammad Ali Al Abbar, chairman of Emaar Properties PJSC; Major-General Mohammad Ahmad Al Merri, Director-General of the Dubai General Directorate for Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA); Qadi Saeed Al Murooshid, Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority (DHA); and Khalid Ahmad Bin Sulayem, Director-General of Dubai's Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing.

Shaikh Hamdan discussed the DHA's new initiatives regarding medical tourism in the emirate and was briefed on the main features aimed at boosting the status of Dubai as an international hub for medical tourism.

Shaikh Hamdan underlined the importance of launching new initiatives of joint services and facilitations between the DHA, the DTCM, the GDRFA and stakeholders to provide health care and tourism services in the emirate. He also called on relevant parties to come up with fruitful ideas to ensure the success of this initiative.

In 2011, Dubai received an estimated ten million tourists, generating up to Dh16 million in revenue. The number of tourists is set to rise by 7 per cent by 2015.
