Abu Dhabi: President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan yesterday received cables of condolences from Arab presidents and Rulers on the death of Shaikh Saqr Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi.

Shaikh Khalifa received cables from Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Oman's Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed, Kuwaiti Emir Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, and Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al Bashir, who expressed their condolences to Shaikh Khalifa, and the UAE government and people.

Shaikh Khalifa also received a telephone call from Hosni Mubarak.

Shaikh Khalifa received condolences from the Federal National Council's speaker and members.

Expression of grief

Amr Mousa, Secretary-General of the Arab League, also expressed in a statement his heartfelt condolences to the UAE President, government and people.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, received similar cables from Al Bashir.

The FNC speaker and members also offered their condolences to Their Highnesses Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates and Shaikh Saqr's family.

His Highness Dr. Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, offered condolences to His Highness Shaikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.

Shaikh Saud also received condolences from Their Highnesses Supreme Council Members and Rulers Shaikh Saud Bin Rashid Al Mualla of Umm Al Quwain and Shaikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi of Ajman. He also received condolences from Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, Shaikh Mohammad Bin Hamad Bin Mohammad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, Shaikh Rashid Bin Saud Bin Rashid Al Mualla, Crown Prince of Umm Al Quwain, Shaikh Ammar Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman, Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair, Speaker of the Federal National Council, shaikhs, senior officials, dignitaries, and accredited diplomatic corps in the country.

Shaikh Saud has declared 40 days of official mourning in Ras Al Khaimah with effect from yesterday, during which time flags will be flown at half mast.

Offices closed

  • In Ras Al Khaimah government and public offices were closed for a week from Wednesday.
  • In Sharjah government offices will be closed for three days from Thursday.
  • In Ajman government and public offices were closed for three days from Wednesday.
  • In Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah local government offices were closed for three days from Wednesday.
