Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Interior (MoI) this year introduced a slew of measures that are considered milestones in its bid to make the capital a safer place for residents and citizens alike.

The ministry succeeded in solving the mystery of most crimes took place this year. It was able to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice. In drug trafficking crimes, the ministry succeeded in foiling the trafficking of 4.5 million pills. The operation, carried out by teams from the Abu Dhabi Police, the Dubai Police and the Ministry of Interior, was called ‘Wooden Doors.’

The Abu Dhabi Police also arrested the ‘Niqab’ woman, a suspect in Al Reem and Corniche crimes. It was able to identify the woman within 24 hours and arrest her within 48 hours. The police also arrested dozens of violators protecting the society. The police also succeeded in creating an awareness in the society about the methods used by criminals that would help the public avoid the pitfalls.

The Abu Dhabi Police general headquarters also achieved record levels of energy conservation, registering a six per cent decrease in the second quarter, thanks to the relentless efforts of its departments and employees. These efforts aim to protect natural resources. The Abu Dhabi Police is one of the first government entities to take the initiative in implementing the resolution of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council to convert 25 per cent of government vehicles to run on natural gas. The Transport and Workshops Department at the Directorate General of Finance and Services implemented the project.

The Ministry of Interior also succeeded in implementing the eye scan system to protect the society. Since its launch in 2003, the system detected 388,399 cases of deported people trying to re-enter the country. The number of deportations as of now is 1,421,656. This year, the Ministry provided 320 e-services via its website www.moi.gov.ae and 30 smartphone services (UAE MOI) via all platforms, including Apple, Android, Blackberry and Windows.
