Abu Dhabi: The Emirates Identity Authority (Emirates ID) has announced that it will host the ID World Abu Dhabi 2013 Summit at the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research in Abu Dhabi on Monday and Tuesday with the support of the European Commission (EC).

The 6th edition of the summit this year will review more than 50 dedicated local and global worksheets with the participation of an elite group of decision-makers worldwide in many areas related to advanced ID systems along with representatives of government entities, experts and people involved in the manufacture of smart ID cards and digital identification systems.

The event, which is expected to attract more than 400 specialists from all over the world, will see the participation of more than 20 world-reputed companies operating in this sector in the exhibition to be held on the sidelines of the summit. The summit will include three main forums- the Citizen ID Forum, the Transportation Security Forum and the Asset Tracking Forum.

Dr Eng Ali Mohammad Al Khouri, Emirates ID Director General, said the summit is an event that falls under the Emirates ID’s efforts to keep exploring the best global practices related to the smart ID systems and their advanced applications with the aim of ensuring the continued development of the integrated and secure systems for verifying and confirming identities in the UAE.

The summit proved over its previous editions to be extremely important for its role in identifying the features of the global trends related to the ID industry and the effect of information and communication technology (ICT) on this industry, he added.

Many global worksheets will be presented in the summit, notably by Steven Martinez, Executive Assistant Director of the Science and Technology Branch in the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), as a keynote speaker at the first session, VanjaVukic, Secretary of State - Ministry of Interior, Serbia, and Stefano Manservisi, Director-General, Home Affairs, European Commission.

The event will discuss various issues including the recent innovations in the IT field; communications related to citizen-centric services; analysis of recent global trends in the field of border control; international migration; and anti-counterfeiting measures.

The summit, organized by Wise Media, will also investigate issues and challenges surrounding modern ICT infrastructures and identification schemes, illustrating their impact on today’s societies in terms of security, mobility and traceability. In addition, the summit will discuss many issues pertaining to the future of digital ID card technology, radio frequency identification (RFID) technology and biometrics.

The Emirates ID’s support for this summit comes as part of its efforts to contribute to supporting the knowledge-based society in the UAE, promoting the digital ID culture and highlighting the Emirates ID’s projects, initiatives and future role in supporting e-government. Its support is also based on its keenness on exchanging experiences and getting familiar with the best practices in the field of advanced ID systems in line with the Emirates ID’s strategy 2010-13.
