Muscat: The UAE and Oman signed the final demarcation of borders agreement in Muscat on Tuesday.

The list of final geographical coordinates and the mapping and delineating of the final line of the border between the UAE and Oman between east of Oqaidat and Al Dara on the Arabian Gulf, were signed.

Lieutenant General Saif Abdullah Al Sha'afar, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, signed for the UAE, while Mohammad Bin Sultan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Oman Ministry of Interior, signed on behalf of Oman.

The borderline extends for a distance of 272km in the sector and has been marked out on the ground with major and minor border posts.

Tripartite meeting point

As a result of the historic agreement, the UAE has now completed the delineation of all of its land borders with Oman.

The border from Umm Al Zamul to east of Oqaidat has already been delineated, in accordance with the agreement signed between the two countries in Sohar on May 1, 1999.

The remaining issue to be solved is the technical definition of the tripartite meeting point in Umm Al Zamul area between the UAE, Oman and Saudi Arabia.
