Abu Dhabi: Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan was appointed Chairman of the National Media Council (NMC) during Tuesday's cabinet meeting.
His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, yesterday chaired the Cabinet meeting discussing a number of topics and approving various matters related to diplomatic ties.
Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, and Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, were also present.
During the meeting, the Cabinet discussed various topics on its agenda.
The Cabinet approved Shaikh Hamdan's appointment as the NMC chairman. He will replace Saqr Gobash Saeed Gobash, Minister of Labour.
The Cabinet also approved the Federal National Council's (FNC) proposal to discuss the policies of the Ministry of Economy.
It approved reinstating diplomatic ties with the Democratic Republic of Congo. The cabinet also approved the signing of various cooperation agreements with China on combating crime, establishing a joint-committee with Mauritania, an agreement with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) on protecting and promoting the diversity of cultural expression.
The Cabinet also approved establishing a joint-committee of cooperation with Senegal, the mutual exemption of entry visas for UAE and Cypriot diplomatic, special and mission passport holders, and an agreement with Chile regarding air transportation services within and beyond the region of both countries.
The ministers gave their consent to an agreement for facilitating the exchange of inter-Arab cultural production.
Financial review
The Cabinet reviewed the financial report on implementation of the federal budget and budgets of independent federal departments for the 2010 fiscal year, from January 1 until June 30. It also approved several other matters and topics pertaining to serving the UAE people and providing the highest standard of services and facilities for the public in various ministries and federal government bodies.
