Dubai: The Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation in Dubai granted Her Highness Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the UAE General Women's Union (GWU) and Supreme Chairperson of the Family Development Foundation, the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Award for Scientific and Cultural Achievement in its 11th chapter for the year 2008-2009.

Abdul Hamid Ahmad — who serves as secretary general of the foundation — explained that the Board of Trustees had reached a decision after several meetings.
He pointed out that they selected Shaikha Fatima from a list of 148 candidates.
He noted that the foundation values the human and civilised roles of Shaikha Fatima and her efforts to support UAE women in areas of education, economy and society as well as the role in empowering women to assume their responsibilities of community and assume leadership roles.
The decision of the council came in recognition of the role and achievements of Shaikha Fatima for the wellbeing of women in UAE, the region and all around the world.
