Abu Dhabi: The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), the UAE's independent regulator for the nuclear sector, seeks public comments on two draft regulations.

The regulations in question are the Application of Probabilistic Risk Assessment at Nuclear Facilities, which supports the safety of construction and operation of nuclear facilities in the UAE, and Radiation Dose Limits, which addresses acceptable dose limits for radiation protection.

FANR will send these regulations to various local and federal government entities for their feedback before these regulations come into force. These draft regulations will be available for public review and comments for 45 days until June 9, 2010.

FANR's policy of operational transparency is underpinned by Federal Law No 6 of 2009, Regarding the Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy, which is why FANR recognises the importance of having these two draft regulations open to the public for comment. FANR will publish the final versions of these regulations in the Official Gazette once FANR's Board of Management has approved them.

Interested parties or members of the public who wish to make comments may request a copy of the two draft regulations by sending an e-mail to: regulation@fanr.gov.ae.

Comments may be returned to FANR via the same email address.
