Dubai: Do you know how to address the Queen, or what to do if you're invited to tea with her?
According to the official website of the UK monarchy, "there are no obligatory codes of behaviour — just courtesy". However, many people wish to observe the traditional forms of greeting.
Firstly, everyone (except the Queen Mother when she was alive) has to stand up when the monarch enters a room.
When meeting her, women should curtsey (a small bob) while men should bow with their heads (not from the waist or too deeply). Other people prefer simply to shake hands in the usual way.
The Queen should be addressed as "Your Majesty", and then "Ma'am". The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip and the Duke of York, Prince Andrew, should be addressed as "Your Royal Highness" the first time, and subsequently as "Sir".
Although Queen Elizabeth II rarely eats in public, protocol dictates that everyone stops eating when she eats her last morsel.
Therefore, people at her table need to watch carefully for when Her Majesty is finishing with her meal.
