Emiratis urged to register for ID cards
Citizens have to register their names at the earliest to avoid complaints about crowded registration centres later as registration for expatriates will begin on June 1, said a senior official.

Abu Dhabi: Lack of enthusiasm among Emiratis to register for their national identity cards has prompted Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) to issue a warning.
Citizens have to register their names at the earliest to avoid complaints about crowded registration centres later as registration for expatriates will begin on June 1, said a senior official.
"The number of registrations at various centres have come down by half during the second week of this month [May] following the announcement to postpone expatriates registration from May 1 to June 1," said Darwish Ahmad Al Zarouni, Director General of EIDA. "Excuses are not acceptable as citizens are ignoring their legal responsibility to have an ID card."
He warned that they may face difficulties to get services from government departments without an identity card. Moreover, a fine will be imposed on citizens from next year for not having an identity card, he said.
The official said this is the best time for citizens to register as the centres may be crowded after June 1 when registration for expatriates begins.
The official had earlier told Gulf News that EIDA will open five more registration offices and a number of portable registration units very soon to facilitate speedy registration.
