Abu Dhabi: A group of Emirati volunteers were preparing to travel to Morocco on Monday to participate in the ongoing search and rescue operation for Shaikh Ahmad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Managing Director of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (Adia) and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Zayed Foundation for Charity and Humanitarian Works.

Shaikh Ahmad went missing after a glider accident in Morocco on Friday, the Arabic newspaper Al Ittihad reported on Tuesday.

The search and rescue group came together as a team to offer assistance to the official search mission in Morocco because they felt it was a "national duty and that it was a spontaneous reaction", Al Ittihad reported.

The Emirati volunteers have also arranged for diving equipment to be shipped with them.

The UAE Search and Rescue Team is still continuing the search for Shaikh Ahmad whose glider had crashed into a lake near the Sidi Mohammad Bin Abdullah Dam near Rabat, reported WAM.

International rescue teams are also involved in the search mission but the nature of the terrain in the area made the search for Shaikh Ahmad extremely challenging.

The glider's pilot had been recued and is now in stable condition, according to reports.
