Abu Dhabi: Eid Al Fitr will be on Sunday, August 19, in the UAE, the Moon Sighting Committee announced on Friday.

The committee said that Saturday, August 18, will be the last day of Ramadan, and Sunday, August 19, will be the first day of Shawwal month.

The announcement was made after a meeting on Friday under the chairmanship of Dr Hadef Jouan Al Daheri, Minister of Justice.

The sighting of the crescent moon was done in coordination with the neighbouring sisterly countries.

On this auspicious occasion, the committee extended its heartfelt congratulations to President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, their Highnesses Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates, General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Crown Princes, and to the people of the UAE.
