Dubai: The Mohammad Bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation on Wednesday organised a dialogue titled ‘The future of innovation in government work’ to support the Dubai Government’s efforts to move towards innovation-based services in the course of 2015.

The dialogue was held in line with the directives of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the vision of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on the National Innovation Strategy.

The dialogue held at the headquarters of the centre in Dubai, was attended by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and a number of ministers and deputy ministers and around 200 dignitaries and government leaders.

The Mohammad Bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation is holding a series of dialogues in an effort to promote a culture of innovation and enable the public sector to achieve a radical change in its functioning.

The latest session included a presentation by Dr Geoff Mulgan, chief executive of the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (Nesta), who explained the importance of innovation in future governments, citing a number of leading international experiences.

Dr Mulgan commended the steps taken by the UAE to prepare future generations of young talents in the field of innovation by providing them the right tools and data as well as the necessary facilities.

He said that the UAE is qualified to be one of the best countries in the world in the field of innovation as it enjoys leadership and government support which are vital to development of innovation.

Dr Mulgan said: “Currently, governments around the world are facing a series of challenges, particularly in terms of developing and adapting the best methods in the provision of innovative services to their citizens. Productivity is also a major challenge as governments struggle to provide better services.”

Huda Al Hashemi, executive director at Mohammad Bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation, said the dialogue embodies the vision of Shaikh Mohammad on the National Innovation Strategy. Huda added that the center has been organising a series of training sessions, workshops and innovation labs to achieve the goals of the National Innovation Strategy and thereby support the public sector in transforming its service delivery mechanism.
