Dubai: Dubai Metro commuters were in for a pleasant surprise yesterday when His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, used the Metro while conducting an official visit.
In his Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/HHSheikhMohammed, Shaikh Mohammed wrote: "I used Dubai Metro yesterday while conducting an official visit. I encourage all to utilise Dubai advanced transport network."
Three hours after posting the news, the wall entry received 5,620 likes and 948 comments. One person wrote: "This is a great example of a true leader. I hope all leaders in the Arab world are like him." Another wrote: "I hope the politicians in my country would be so humble like Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid."
A female user of the Metro wrote on Shaikh Mohammad’s wall on Facebook: "I used the Metro and then took a bus today. The only thing that needs to be addressed is the lack of shade and seating at the bus stop at Ministry of Education.
“The signage also needs to be updated with correct information. I really enjoyed my journey and was very impressed at how clean, bright and efficient the system works. This was not my first trip. I will definitely be using it again and recommending it to others. Well done Dubai..."
“Had I waited for another five minutes we could have been in the same train yesterday... many thanks for providing this safe and convenient 21st century train...I use it everyday...my children too...,” one commuter wrote.
A number of commentators pledged to use the Metro and called on Shaikh Mohammad to used public transportation whenever possible to encourage more resident to use it.
