Dubai: A total of 892 prisoners will be released in accordance with orders issued by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to mark Ramadan.

Shaikh Mohammad’s order provides for the release of both Emiratis and expatriates from Dubai’s correctional and punitive establishments.

Dubai’s Attorney General Essam Eisa Al Humaidan said the Dubai Public Prosecution and Dubai Police have already started the implementation of Shaikh Mohammad’s order to ensure that the prisoners — who have all served their jail terms in part — can be reunited with their families before the beginning of Ramadan.

Al Humaidan thanked Shaikh Mohammad for the generous gesture saying they reflected his noble Arab values and his commitment to all members of society without any discrimination.

He also congratulated the UAE’s leadership on the advent of Ramadan. He also wished the released prisoners well as they return to their families and urged them to begin a new life highlighted by good behaviour.
