Crackdown on street vendors, beggars and illegal car washers in January
Obaid Ebrahim Marzouqi, Head of Markets Management Section at Dubai Municipality, explained that the crackdown also resulted in the seizure of low-quality goods and pirated CDs.
“Inspectors conduct daily spot checks in streets and public places to prevent street vending, begging and car washing in public places by individuals in violation of the ruling by the Ministry of Labour. Inspectors at the Control Unit of the Markets Administration Section in the Assets Management Department also carry out regular checks,” he said.
“Last month, we caught 167 street vendors, 48 beggars, 37 car washers and 12 unlicensed butchers and fish cleaners.”
A total of 1,933 counterfeit products were seized, including 962 miscellaneous items, 710 pirated CDs, 230 food items, 21 palm trees and 10 alcoholic drinks.
The offenders, who belong to various nationalities, will be deported.
