Dubai: The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) announced that it has diagnosed a new case of novel Corona virus (MERS-CoV) in the emirate.

DHA confirmed on Friday that a 68-year-old Emirati patient was admitted to the hospital after showing symptoms of the SARS-like virus and is now receiving medical care at an intensive care unit.

The man is also suffering from diabetes and chronic kidney failure.

DHA affirmed that it is coordinating with the Ministry of Health and other health authorities and has taken necessary precautionary measures consistent with standards set by the World Health Organisation (WHO), including epidemiological investigations for those who have come in contact with the patient.

The Ministry of Health said the first laboratory confirmed case of MERS-CoV was announced by WHO on September 20, 2012. Until September 17, the WHO had confirmed 165 cases globally.

The WHO also stressed that the virus is not a concern for public health at the moment, and that the current situation does not require the imposition of a travel ban to any country in the world, nor screenings at different ports, nor any restrictions on trade.

The ministry added that globally detected cases continue to be very low compared to other types of flu and assured the public that it was monitoring the situation closely to ensure everyone’s health and safety.
