Dubai: The Government Summit 2013, the first of its kind regional initiative to be held in Dubai, which starts on Monday is set to discuss many aspects of government administration and services, as well as host several interactive discussions to be addressed by international experts.
His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, will also be answering questions submitted to him by journalists and citizens on his website. The summit runs for two days.
Shaikh Mohammad will speak about his future vision for improving governmental performance in the UAE and key future developments in the field of services and general governmental policies.
Also attending the Governmental Summit will be Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, and Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, who will discuss topics related to enhancing governmental performance.
International speakers, such as Gordon Brown, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Chris Vein, Chief Innovation Officer for Technology Development at the World Bank, will also be participating. The summit will also review the governmental experience of Canada, Australia, South Korea and Brazil, in addition to other successful local models.
The aspects to be covered in the discussions include social media as a tool for citizen engagement, future scenarios for effective service delivery, innovative partnerships with the private sector and measuring development.
The best practice workshops on the UN Public Service Award — the most prestigious international recognition in public service excellence — was held on the sidelines of the summit on Sunday. It discussed recognising and rewarding innovation in Government and promoting transfer and adaptation of innovations in the Arab region.
A ministerial roundtable will also be held as part of the Summit, with ministers from around the world sharing their insights and recommendations on how government services can be made more effective, efficient and citizen-oriented.
