Dubai: Dubai Cares has emphasised the importance of ensuring the girl child’s education as the key factor in achieving progress and development of nations.

On the occasion of the International Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8, Dubai Cares said the girl’s education is vital in improving the lot of individuals, families and consequently communities and the nation.

On this occasion, Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Cares, stated how ensuring the girl child’s education is everyone’s responsibility.

“It is an unfortunate fact that in many of the countries we work in, girls’ access to education is extremely limited when compared to boys. While we are constantly showcasing how education can change girls’ lives and give them bigger control of their futures, we also educate communities and boys about the importance of education for all, thus making them strong advocates for women’s education in the long run.”

“International Women’s Day reinforces the need for the community as a whole to be accountable for girls’ education, guaranteeing that girls everywhere grow up with the same opportunities that boys have,” he said

Dubai Cares works in developing countries around the globe to increase children’s access to quality primary education. It implements integrated programmes that eliminate the underlying obstacles that prevent children from going to school and learning.

Gender equality is a cross cutting theme in all Dubai Cares education programmes with an approach that aims to secure equal access for boys and girls to safe learning environments with adequate facilities, materials and academic support from qualified teachers and engaged communities. Dubai Cares is currently reaching more than 13 million beneficiaries in 38 developing countries.

Celebrated annually on March 8, thousands of International Women’s Day events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements. International Women’s Day has been observed since in the early 1900’s and is today an official holiday in many countries, including Russia, Afghanistan and China. The tradition sees men honouring their mothers, wives, girlfriends, colleagues, etc with flowers and small gifts.
