Abu Dhabi: Customs officers foiled a bid to smuggle 128,2kg of poppy seeds at Abu Dhabi International Airport. Three passengers have been detained.

The inspectors suspected three passengers who arrived from India and frisked them. They found 52 bags of poppy seeds weighing 52kg in the bags of the first suspect, 35 bags weighing 35,1kg with the second suspect and 41 bags weighing 41,1kg with the third suspect.

The three suspects were referred to the authorities.

Hamad Al Hurr Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Department of Finance, lauded the Abu Dhabi customs inspectors.

Saeed Ahmad Al Muhairi, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Customs, also praised their efforts.
