Abu Dhabi: The Dress One Million Needy Children campaign has so far painted a wide smile on faces of underprivileged children in Bosnia, Albania, Yemen, Lebanon, Egypt, Djibouti, Senegal, Tanzania, Malawi, Jordan, Pakistan, India and Uganda.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, launched the Ramadan campaign which aims to clothe a million deprived children around the world.

The campaign will continue until the 19th day of Ramadan, which falls on UAE's Humanitarian Work Day, and marks the 9th anniversary of the death of the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

The campaign has gone beyond all expectations and succeeded in raising the Dh40 million needed to dress the one million children in just 10 days from its launch on July 11. As a result Shaikh Mohammad directed that the campaign be expanded in order to increase the number of beneficiaries.

The Emirates Red Crescent on Thursday distributed assorted clothes in Timboui village in Malawi’s Slima governorate to children between the ages of 2 and 12.

The distribution process was also attended by the Malawi Red Cross.

Mohammad Rashid Al Shamsi, Deputy Director of Aid and Emergency unit at the Emirates Red Crescent, stressed the keenness of the UAE and its wise leadership on helping the needy all across the globe.

ERC teams also distributed the campaign’s aid material to children in 23 Ugandan governorates. Kampala was the first station in the campaign’s tour where the ERC teams, in cooperation with the UAE embassy in Uganda, distributed the clothes to thousands of deprived children.
