Sharjah: His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, on Wednesday arrived in Lisbon, Portugal.
The visit is part of a series of academic tours that Dr Shaikh Sultan will be conducting in various European cities. During his visit to Lisbon, Dr Shaikh Sultan will inaugurate the activities of Sharjah Cultural Days, an event that is held under his patronage to raise awareness on Emirati culture, literature and art.
Dr Shaikh Sultan will visit the University of Lisbon and Institute of the National Archives, as well as meet with various ministers from the country. Dr Shaikh Sultan will also be honoured by Academy of Sciences of Lisbon in recognition of his research and academic efforts in the field of Portugal’s relations with the region.
On the second leg of his tour, Dr Shaikh Sultan will visit Paris, where he will be signing a cooperation agreement between the University of Sharjah and the University of Paris for the exchange of expertise and equipment in the field of science and education. He will then visit the Arab World Institute in Paris, where he will be launching the French copy of the first part of his book, Hadith Al Thakira, in which Dr Shaikh Sultan narrates events during the UAE federation, and documents various important historical events witnessed by the emirate of Sharjah and the region during the 1940s and 1970s.
Dr Shaikh Sultan will then head to Frankfurt, where he will meet with a number of intellectuals, publishers and authors participating in the Frankfurt Book Fair (FBF). Dr Shaikh Sultan will also attend the inauguration of FBF, and will be signing German copies of his book.
