Dealers warned to observe safety regulations

Ras Al Khaimah: The Department of Economic Development issued yesterday what it called a final warning to motorcycle and quad bike dealers to stick to safety measures especially when it comes to renting such vehicles and get a parent to sign the approval documents authorising their children to rent it.
"If this approval form was not officially signed by a parent, then dealers should never rent a vehicle to underage clients under any circumstances," warned a senior official at the department. The department has been monitoring dealers, mainly in the tourist area of Awafi to locate those who do not stick to the rules and regulations and rent motorcycles and quad bikes to clients as young as 12-14 years old without getting the necessary approval forms signed by parents.
The department has also registered a number of complaints from the public who urged the department to force these dealers to stick to the emirates relative rules and regulations and avoid renting those dangerous vehicles without getting all the conditions fulfilled.
The department warned dealers that inspectors will take the necessary legal measures and impose hefty penalties on violators. Serious actions will instantly be taken against the violators.
Approval
The department will review the files of these dealers and look into the daily rent cases to ensure that the dealers have been getting the necessary official approval from parents of underage clients [those who are less than 18 years old].
Hamad Al Shamsi, the Deputy Director of the Department of Economic Development confirmed the violation committed by the dealers. "Concerned departments in the emirate have traced the violations and the department registered several complaints filed by the public."
"Violating dealers have been renting motorcycles and quad bikes to youngsters without fulfilling official conditions and this is in direct violation of the laws," he said.
He stressed that this will be the last call for dealers to stick to the rules and regulations whereby dealers caught with the offense will be heavily punished.
